Mukogawa Women's University Naginata Club celebrated its 40th anniversary on September 30th at the Mukogawa Women's University Budokan with about 40 past and present students and former faculty members who were the club's advisors.

The Naginata Club started as a recreational club in October 1977, and was promoted to an official club in 1982 after serving as the Naginata Team of the Kendo Club. Currently, 12 students are active in the club.

At the 40th anniversary reunion, the participants wore practice uniforms and hakama and practiced the basics, while the alumni and students competed in matches. Even those who said they had been away from Naginata for a long time got to work on their skills for the first time in a long while. The students were a little nervous, saying, "I have never met so many of the older students before, so this is quite stimulating experience for me."

Izumi Kawahara, president of the OG Association, said, "When I competed in Naginata at university, the sport itself was minor, but I am happy that the Naginata club has survived to this day. I feel once again that the dignified attitude and spirit of Naginata is the very spirit of Mukogakuin."

Afterwards, the participants moved to the Mukojo Station Campus for a reception.
