University Open Day held on August 11th and 12th.

The two day university Open Campus event came to a close on August 12th.

The two days with the first day being the public holiday welcomed the third Open Campus for MWU of the academic year. This month’s event saw more visitors setting foot on campus than any other Open Campus days since it was the beginning of summer holiday for many of the high school students.

At MWU, the day events are held simultaneously across three of its campuses. The main campus being in the center of it all, while introductory day is held for prospect Pharmaceutical students at Hamakoshien campus. Students who seek details on studying in the Department of Architecture will attend the one held at Kamikoshien campus.

Paper fans were handed out to ensure the risk of heat stroke were kept low.

On the first leg of the two day course, the baton cheering club put on a show to a sea of audience at the Opening Ceremony. The entertainment carried on to the second day where it was the chorus club’s turn to showcase their musical talents.

The final Open Campus day will take place on September 25th.

Mukogawa Women’s University’s team of researchers with their seminar group welcomed people with their innovative activities.

“Takasu Festival” is a summer festival held at the Mukogawa Housing Complex for activities mainly targeted for children. A team of 3rd year students from the Department of Education’s, Fujii Seminar of Art and Craft run a “doodle truck” and had fun being creative with children drawing and coloring. For another spot of activity, children were seen drawing on a see through cling film like plastic, with the visualization of “drawing on the sky”.

A group from the Food Sciences and Nutrition Department showcased the knowledge on their field of study by using orange flavored jelly. In the experiment style game, 2 types of jelly were introduced, comparing jelly made of agar and gelatin. Whilst reading the food education leaflet distributed, the comparison of the textures of two types of jelly from Japan and Europe was conducted in order to promote multicultural understanding.

Alternatively, a game of “How many of these cuisines around the world do you know?” in order to win prizes, contestants had to correctly answer the name of the country of a particular cuisine by looking at the pictures.

Reveling on the love for learning at Nikkei STEAM symposium.

The symposium was held at Osaka International Convention Center in Kita-ku, on July 28th. Up to 31 universities and high schools all across the nation joined forces in creating a platform for students to shine whether it be science, technology, engineering, art or mathematics.



The convention consisted of multiple of segments that included conference like presentations led by students, open discussion with female researchers, one time experience fairs and workshops.  In the summit, students from 16 high schools and universities from Japan as well as 5 from overseas with topics of discussion, stood in front of the audience to showcase their presentations.



Fish & Chips was the name of the team representing Mukogawa Women’s University, with the focus of “amplifying the magnitude of joy with the use of technology.” With so many competitors all ranging in ages and know-hows, the MWU team road to victory was dismissed in the qualifying rounds, yet it proved to be a good experience. The team stayed on until the award ceremony to cheer their rivals on in good spirits and showed support.

 

Throughout the day, students were seen walking, gathering information and receiving educational materials. While universities had booths with their representatives ready to demonstrate and deliver required information, poster panels were put up by a handful of high schools with the students presenting their findings on SDGs related matters.

First term classes coming to a close at General Education’s Challenge Course.

At Mukogawa Women’s University, General Education courses are offered as part of the curriculum to strengthen the development of student learning. The course provides communicative classes for 2nd to 4th year students with selective number of students per class, all catered for interactive learning. The objective of the course is centered towards improvement of English ability, fundamental communication skills and social awareness and development for the future.



The students are monitored throughout their learning on 6 key criteria, motivation, contribution, reliability, potential, communication and development.

Every Monday, all 3 classes are taught simultaneously in classrooms next to one and another, making it inviting for students to interact with each other across grades. July 25th saw the end to the first term classes, with one class making presentations in front of their peers and professor. The students are assigned topics of their choice to present and to provide a question of thought for the listeners on how they feel and create a space for discussion.

This year celebrates 9th year of Challenge Course since its establishment. The course carries its legacy of empowering students with the tools and skills that they can carry through to their adulthood.

An announcement of new faculty and department for the fiscal year of 2023 via billboard at Hankyu Nishinomiya Kitaguchi station.

In April 2023, Mukogawa Women’s University will welcome 3 new departments, Department of Psychology and Social Welfare, Department of Social Informatics and Department of Sports Management. A billboard with the names of new departments were posted on the premises of Hankyu Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi station on July 16th.

Culture presentations by foreign exchange students.

Three foreign exchange students, Han Juhee, Shin Yiungseo and Kim Suneun all of
Korean nationals have joined the family of Mukogawa Women’s University from HannamUniversity, Daejeon in April, 2022.
Since their arrival, they have been working extremely hard on their language skills in
Japanese language classes. In order to demonstrate the journey in learning, the students
selectively presented a topic of their choice, all in a language that is second nature to them.

From start to finish, each presenting via PowerPoint slides and other forms of multimedia,
all three, Ms. Han. Ms. Shin and Ms. Kim, all executed and presented their knowledge of
the language and culture in front of handful of spectators. Among the audience, their
language teachers were seen present as well as staff from International Center and some
students who showed interest in them and their story.Once the presentations were completed, the exchange students were gathered by students who had come to watch to continue chatting in small groups.
