Walk the World Osaka 2022 is a charity walk for World Food Program which is run by the United Nations. It's the first time in three years to be able to host the walk at the Expo Commemorative Park. The volunteers of MWU went to take part in the walk on May 29th.

This walk is known for its goals and motivation to raise awareness of the current state of hunger in the world as well as aim to eliminate hunger among children in developing countries. Money donated at the walk will go towards supporting school meals to promote the health and well-being of children and provide more educational opportunities.

The walk was welcomed with a sunshine and clear blue sky, and more than 1,000 participants walked either one of 10 km or 5km course around the park.

Representing Mukogawa Women’s University were 41 members of faculty members and staff which included brown rice volunteers too.

Faculty of Architecture held its first volunteering activity of the year.

In March 2008, Mukogawa Women’s University became the first university in Kinki area to sign an agreement with the Hyogo National Highway. With supplies of cleaning equipment provided from the Hyogo National Highway, the cleanup around the sidewalks near the Kamikoshien campus have been conducted by the group of volunteers at MWU. A total of 33 people, including first-year students and staff from the Department of Architecture, along with staff from the Kamikoshien campus participated in weeding and picking up trash to promote trash-free community.

Maiko Sakashita, a former representative of Japan women’s volleyball team and a graduate of MWU has been appointed as a club coach for the volleyball club.


Ms. Maiko Sakashita who graduated from the Department of Health and Sports Sciences has been appointed as the coach for MWU’s volleyball coach from this academic year onwards. While attending the university as a student herself, she too belonged to the volleyball club, back in early 2000’s.


As a left attacker, she played for the Kansai University Women’s 1st Division and has gone to win consecutively for the third time in a row securing her and her team in the Top 8 at All Japan competition. Upon graduating, she joined the V- League team “JT marvelous” and won the 2007 New Player Award.

In 2009, she was elected to the national volleyball team that saw her play an active part and was given a name of “Shin” that symbolized her fighting spirit on the court. Once retiring as a player in 2016, she began her journey in management of a team in Ishikawa Prefecture called the “PFU Blue cats”.

Ms. Sakashita comments on the idea of becoming a coach for the club at her alma mater “I wanted to form a team that is like none other and give back to the university that helped to shape who I am today.”

The Sports Festival held for the first time in 3 years on the weekend of May 14th.

With the slogan of “Beyond the limit – Get over it”, the 58th Mukogawa Women’s University Sports Festival was hosted in a hybrid of in person and on streamed live.

The custom of holding the Sports Festival has been run by the student led Executive Committee since 1995. Rise in Covid-19 cases resulted in withdrawal of the event in 2020, followed by online streaming in 2021. It’s the first time in 3 years to have spectators come to watch live performances on stage. At the Koe Memorial Auditorium, the number of audience was restricted with a live streaming on YouTube limited for students of the university.

The student committee leader Ms. Nagisa Nagahara explains “I’m so grateful to be able to have the festival to real life audiences again. Just like the slogan, I hope this festival reaches its potential and reaches the hearts of many.” Performances by aerobic dance club, baton and cheerleading club and dance club all got up on the stage, followed by recitals by groups of students from various departments.

Ms. Rena Ohara was presented with second place at the 40th Spring KESSA Cup English Speech Contest that was held online on May 1st. At the convention, student representatives of universities in the Kansai region compete in the speech contest. They’re judged in 3 categories. A 4-minute improvisational speech in English, an 8-minute recitation speech followed by a 4-minute of questions by the evaluators. The contest measures the participants’ abilities in comprehensive English.

In Ms. Ohara’s speech “The Freedom of She” the importance of which in order to truly become independent, it’s vital to review the relationships we have with our parents and take on responsibilities for own good were emphasized.

This marks the seventh consecutive year for the Department of English at Mukogawa Women’s University to be given awards in English speech competitions.
