Koshien Hall, which is one of the most beautiful and precious architectures of all Mukogawa, is a main campus of Architecture Department and it is why we welcomed the U.S. based architecture foundation, Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation was established to commemorate Frank Lloyd Wright's works and his contribution to architecture. Deriving its name from one of the three most famous architects in the world, the foundation hails its vision as "inspire the world through beautiful spaces that are thoughtfully designed and experienced" (referred from its website).
As they took a 10-day tour from Tokyo to Hiroshima to observe archetectures inspired by Wright's works, including Koshien Hall. Koshien Hall was built by Arata Endo, one of Frank's apprentices, as Koshien Hotel in 1930. For Frank-inspired architectures are rarely left in Japan, there are increasing number of people visiting there from overseas. Guests from Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation are not exception; we have welcomed 351 visitors fromt the foundation in total since 2005.
This year, one graduate student, Rino Uema who is currently studing architecture at Master's degree level at MWU took them to a Koshien Hall tour in English. Since it was not her first time to guide them, she proudly explained about the architecture with so fruent and excellent English that they praised it as "very good".
The Koshien Hall English guide performed by post graduate students at Architecture Department started along with the rapid increase of visitors to Koshien hall one of whose reasons was its 150th anniversary. 260 visitors out of 517 hosted within two years from 2017 to 2019 have enjoyed the students' tour.
