The work of a lecturer in the Department of Landscape Architecture was published in “Landscape Design”.

建築学部景観建築学科の非常勤講師で庭園作家の園三(田畑了）さんの景観建築作品が、建築雑誌「ランドスケープ・デザイン」（マルモ出版）最新号に、特集記事「自然美から芸術美への展開・園三のランドスケープ」として掲載されています。

 

園三さんの学生時代の師である景観建築学科の曽和治好教授が監修と執筆を担当。「芸術美のランドスケープへ」と題し、園三さんの景観建築デザインの独自性や手法について解説しています。アメリカの景観建築の視点から文章を寄せている滋賀県立大学の村上修一教授も園三さんの師であるとともに本学景観建築学科で非常勤講師を務めており、本学ゆかりの師弟による誌上共演となりました。

 

園三さんは建築家の妹島和世さんを始め、名だたる建築家とコラボし、500を超える庭園作品を世に送り出している注目の庭園作家です。代表作は軽井沢プロジェクトや三井ガーデンホテル金沢など。現代アートでの創作活動にも取り組み、イタリアのガーデンショー「オルティコラリオ」で総合優勝を果たすなど、国内外で高い評価を得ています。

 

10ページにわたり数多くの画像とともに特集された紙面は格調高く、景観建築がめざす方向性を詳らかにします。解説文で曽和教授は「園三の創り出すランドスケープは多視点的でありシークエンスでもある」と表現。創作の初期段階から完成までを逐一デジタル撮影し、SNS等で世界に発信するスピード感ある取り組みも紹介しています。

 

建築と造園を一体としてとらえる景観建築学科は、日本の大学教育では2020年度に武庫川女子大学が初めて学科として開設したばかり。建築士と登録ランドスケープアーキテクスト（RLA)の両方の資格取得が可能ですが、建築学科に比べ、まだイメージが難しいかもしれません。曽和教授は「園三さんの活躍を詳しく知ることは、景観建築学科で学ぶ学生にとって未来をイメージする一助になるのでは。大学教育にとっても参考になると思います」と話しています。

 

A part-time lecturer and writer, Sonozo (Ryo Tabata) has published a feature article “From Natural Beauty to Artistic Beauty” in the latest issue of the architectural magazine Landscape Design. The article was published as “Landscape of Sonozo.”

 

Professor Haruyoshi Sowa of the Department of Landscape Architecture, who was a teacher to Mr. Sonozo, is in charge of the supervision and writing of the published article. Under the title of “To the Landscape and the Beauty of Art”, he explains the unique methods of his ex-student’s landscape architectural design. Professor Shuichi Murakami of the University of Shiga, who writes texts from the perspective of American landscape architecture, is also a teacher of Mr. Sonozo and lectures as a part-time at Mukogawa Women’s University.

 

The artist Sonozo is a remarkable garden designer who has collaborated with famous architects such as architect Kazuyo Sejima and has produced more than 500 garden designs. His representative work includes Karuizawa Project and Mitsui Garden Hotel Kanazawa. He has also been involved in creative activities in contemporary art, and has been highly accredited both nationwide and abroad, that led him to victory at the Italian garden show “Orticorario”.

 

The 10 – page spread, which is featured with numerous images, is noble in a sense that it reveals the direction that landscape architecture is headed to. In the commentary, Professor Sowa expressed that “the landscape created by Sonozo has multi-view and is in sequence.”  Sharing it out to the world via the use of SNS at a rapid rate was recently introduced, from the initial stage of creation to completion.  

 

The Department of Landscape Architecture, which captures architecture and landscaping as one, was just opened by Mukogawa Women’s University in 2020 as the first department of its kind of university education in Japan. It is possible to obtain both architect and registered landscape architect (RLA) qualifications, but the vision itself might differ largely compared to the architecture department.
