東京2020オリンピックに出場した水泳部の荒井祭里さん（健康・スポーツ科学科3年）と体操部の杉原愛子さん（短期大学部健康・スポーツ学科2年）が12月2日、甲子園警察署（西宮市甲子園七番町）の一日署長として、年末の交通事故防止を呼びかけました。
東京2020オリンピックでは、荒井さんは女子シンクロ高飛び込みで6位入賞、リオデジャネイロ大会に続く2大会連続出場の杉原さんは、体操女子団体で5位入賞を果たしました。二人は兵庫県の「年末の交通事故防止運動」に参加し、警察官の制服姿で、交通安全の啓発ポスターや動画で啓発を行っています。
動画では、「私たちはアスリートとしてルールを守り、事故に気を付け、常に緊張感を持って競技に臨んでいます。車の運転も人の命にかかわることから、事故に気をつけてルールを守ることが大切です」と呼びかけています。
この日は、甲子園警察署の横田誠治署長から一日署長の委嘱状を交付された後、署内で年末の交通事故防止運動発隊式に出席し、署員を前に「私たちは日々、悲惨な交通事故や凶悪な犯罪のニュースを目にして心を痛めています。市民の皆様が、平穏に年末を過ごし、明るい新年が迎えられますよう、より一層の御尽力をいただきますようお願いいたします」と訓示しました。
その後、同署近くのショッピングセンター「ららぽーと甲子園」（同市甲子園八番町）で行われた啓発キャンペーンに参加。
来場者に「一つ目。道路を横断する時は、車が来ていないか、しっかり左右の安全確認をしてください。二つ目。横断歩道は歩行者優先です。三つ目。飲酒運転による交通事故が後を絶ちません。飲酒運転は犯罪です。お酒を飲んだら車を運転しない、運転する時はお酒を飲まない、運転する人にはお酒を飲ませない。飲酒運転追放の『三ない運動』の徹底をお願いします」と交通安全メッセージを披露し、啓発チラシやグッズなどを配布しました。

December 2nd saw the Tokyo 2020 stars, Aiko Sugihara and Matsuri Arai being appointed as PR representatives for a campaign to notify people on the dangers of drink and driving. They acted as police officers for Koshien Police unit for the day to promote the matter.
They feature in a poster and a video where they say In the video, “as athletes, we follow the rules and are always careful of accidents that can lead to injuries that can affect our future competitions. Driving on the road can be just as or if not more life-threatening and so it is important to obey the rules.”
At the event, after being issued a commission letter from the Koshien Police Station chief, Seiji Yokota for the day, the students attended an end of the year traffic accident prevention campaign launch ceremony. They made a short speech “almost on a daily basis, we are traumatized by the news of tragic road accidents and misconducts. We would like to ask all the citizens for their continous efforts so that we can all spend the year peacefully and welcome the New Year with a smile
The campaign followed with the two students hosting the campaign at the nearby shopping mall, Lalaport Koshien. They requested of implementing “3 rules” to minimize road accidents. “First, please watch out for incoming cars by looking up before you cross the road. Secondly, let’s prioritize pedestrians crossing. The last one we want everyone to understand is about the seriousness of drinking and driving. Don’t drive if you had a drink or if you’re planning to have one. Don’t let someone, anyone get behind the wheel if they had alcohol.” They made the announcement of their message and handed out leaflets and goodies to passersby.
