＜日本語/English＞ 英語文化学科4年の大原怜奈さんが「春KESSA杯 英語弁論大会」で準優勝しました。

「第40回 春KESSA杯争奪 学生英語弁論大会」(関西学生英語会連盟 主催)が5月1日、オンライン上で開催され、英語文化学科・英語特別クラス(ACE)４年、大原怜奈さんが準優勝しました。今回で第40回を迎えた伝統ある同大会は、同連盟に加盟する関西圏の大学の代表学生が、英語による４分間の即興スピーチと８分間の暗唱弁論、さらに４分間の質疑応答を加えた総合的な英語発信力を競うコンテストです。

大原さんは、「Freedom of SHE」(大人としての自立)の演題で、真の大人となるためには、親との関係性を見直し、自分自身の選択に責任を持つことが重要だと訴えました。準優勝をうけ、「ずっと練習を重ね、ようやく学外大会で入賞できました。今まで応援し、支えてくださったゼミの先生や仲間に感謝します」と話しています。

指導を担当した英語文化学科・学科長の清水利宏教授(英語スピーチ・プレゼンテーション研究室)は、「法令上の成年年齢の引き下げという話題性の高さに甘んじることなく、そこから普遍的な価値観を問い正すアプローチが秀逸。大原さんの今後の活躍が楽しみです」と話しています。

今回の受賞により、本学英語文化学科は、英語弁論やプレゼンテーションのオープン大会で「７年度連続の上位入賞」となります。

 

Ms. Rena Ohara was presented with second place at the 40th Spring KESSA Cup English Speech Contest that was held online on May 1^st. At the convention, student representatives of universities in the Kansai region compete in the speech contest. They’re judged in 3 categories. A 4-minute improvisational speech in English, an 8-minute recitation speech followed by a 4-minute of questions by the evaluators. The contest measures the participants’ abilities in comprehensive English.

 

In Ms. Ohara’s speech “The Freedom of She” the importance of which in order to truly become independent, it’s vital to review the relationships we have with our parents and take on responsibilities for own good were emphasized.

 

This marks the seventh consecutive year for the Department of English at Mukogawa Women’s University to be given awards in English speech competitions.
